Hantavirus is the common name for the pathogen that causes the rare yet potentially deadly disease known as hantavirus cardiopulmonary syndrome, or HPS. This disease made big headlines a few years ago, then dropped from the public consciousness, but it’s still present in many homes throughout the U.S. The virus itself is spread by mice, by what they leave behind: their feces, urine and saliva. If we disturb any of these in our crawl spaces, basements and other living spaces, we can inhale the hantavirus. Learn more about this danger.
